Route Description:
The event starts and finishes in its namesake, Solvang, a quaint, Danish village with excellent hotels, awesome restaurants, window shopping, real shopping, horse-drawn carriages, parks, people in costume, wine-tasting, vineyards, and lots of fun things for the whole family to see and do. Bring your family and make a weekend of it. We promise they’ll all have a great time while you ride your bike!
The new start/finish is the Royal Copenhagen Inn. Riders will enjoy a warm-up through Solvang, Ballard and Santa Ynez, and then head up world famous Foxen Canyon. The first big climb of the day meanders about nine miles up Tepusquet then drops down to Highway 166. Riders then head towards San Luis Obispo via Arroyo Grande. After lunch is the next challenging climb – on a beautiful, quiet road with epic views. The ride heads back south on Hwy 1 along the coast through Pismo Beach and Shell Beach. After Guadalupe, riders veer off Hwy 1 onto the beautiful and quiet Lompoc-Casmalia Road, ultimately heading back to Solvang over the Vandenberg Grade and Santa Rosa Road.
The route is 200 miles with about 10,300 feet of climbing. These are some of the very best miles available in an already spectacular riding region. A bit more challenging than our Spring Solvang Double – but sure to be a California Triple Crown and Grand Slam Classic!
Towns/regions visited: Solvang, Ballard, Santa Ynez, Los Olivos, Foxen Canyon, Sisquoc, Santa Maria, Nipomo, Arroyo Grande, San Luis Obispo, Pismo Beach, Shell Beach, Guadalupe, Lompoc, Buellton, and back to Solvang.
